Greater Manchester Cross Country 2025
The Greater Manchester (GM) XC Champs took place on 13th December 2025 at Leigh Sports Village. This race forms the trials to gain selection to represent GM at the Inter County Cross Country Championships in March 2025. Top 4 would guarantee selection and top 12 have a chance of selection.
Conditions were relatively good, with some muddy patches in places but this didn’t stop ECH athletes from putting in excellent performances. Firstly in the under 13 boys race, Jacob Shearing had a terrific run to finish 7th place with Hamish Heginbotham 13th and Jacob Bailey 25th . In the under 13 girls race Seren Gush ran brilliantly to finish 9th place overall with Annabelle Smith in 30th. Matthew Bailey was next in the under 15 boys, running strong to finish in 21st place. Erin McMahon ran well in the under 15 girls race finishing in 16th place.
There was a fantastic turnout in the under 17 men’s race with six ECH athletes running brilliantly with Marshall Fleet 6th, Alfie Manser 12th, Oliver Walker 14th, James Rook 20th, Nathan Dunn 21st and Archie Bennett 22nd. The team claimed a fantastic Bronze. Harri-Ann Fleet went in the under 20 women’s race finishing in a very creditable 10th place. Callum Fricker raced hard to finish 8th in the junior men’s race with Maria Rooke having another strong run in 7th place in the junior women’s event.
In the senior women’s race Katie Kay had a strong run to finish in 10th place overall. In the senior men’s race we had six solid runs starting with Joe Hudak in 6th followed by Michael Holness in 7th, Gavin Browne 11th, Tom McMahon 21st, Robin Horner 26th and Jonathan Aust 31st. The team took home a brilliant Silver medal.
